Behind the Pitti Palace, the astonishing Boboli Garden stretches over the hill creating a real open-air museum. Commissioned by the Medici family, it became the prototype of  the Italian-style garden for many European courts. Its huge green expanse is scattered with plenty of ancient and modern statues, monumental fountains and grottos like the fabulous one by the celebrated artist Bernardo Buontalenti. Its fascinating pathways allow to catch the atmosphere of court life while walking amidst natural wonders which renews itself endlessly.

There are 4 entrances to the Garden: the central door of Pitti Palace, Annalena (Via Romana 37/A), Porta Romana and Forte Belvedere. Since February 2016 the entrance from Annalena has been closed during the free openings of the first Sunday of each month.

The Porcelain Museum was arranged in the 18th-century building called “Palazzina del Cavaliere”, in a captivating position on top of the Boboli hill, and originally conceived by the Medici family as a place for amusement and pleasure, and where the Accademici del Cimento (members of the scientific “Cimento” Academy) used to meet. It gathers beautiful European porcelains purchased by Habsburg-Lorraine Grand Dukes, along with collections brought by the Savoy Kings from their residences in Parma, Piacenza and Sala Baganza. Moreover, it is noteworthy to admire the remarkable amount of porcelains produced by the renowned Doccia Manufacture, set up by Marquis Carlo Ginori in 1737 and usually known as Richard Ginori after its fusion with the Richard Manufacture from Milan at the end of the 19th century.
